The GWC is led by Kevin Thompson. Kevin has been working in the full-time ministry for more than 14 years. He attended Duke University on a football scholarship and graduated in 1999 with a bachelor’s degree in sociology. While in school, he met and married Elizabeth Laing, and the two worked together in campus ministries at Duke, UNC-Chapel Hill and N.C. State.
In 2000, the couple moved to Atlanta, where they spent three years serving a thriving ministry at Georgia Tech. In 2003, the Thompsons moved to Athens, GA, where Kevin served as campus minister for the Athens Church of Christ for eight years. Through the power of God, the campus ministry in Athens developed into a zealous, loving, and spiritual ministry of more than 100 student members, and hosted the International Campus Ministry Conference in Athens in 2011. Kevin played a key role in organizing the mission efforts to plant the Clemson Foothills Church in Clemson, South Carolina, and currently serves on the Missions Committee for the Southeastern churches in our fellowship.
The Thompsons recently spent 9 months serving in the Triangle Church in North Carolina, where they prepared a mission team to plant a new congregation in Wilmington, NC. Kevin has always dreamed of building a congregation from the ground up, and is excited about the opportunity to build a visionary, family-oriented, thriving church in Wilmington. He and Elizabeth have four young children, Cassidy, Blake, Avery and Sawyer. Kevin is currently working to attain his Masters degree in Ministry from Abilene Christian University.
